MEME TYPE: LINKS

After plain text, links are perhaps the simplest kind of memes. While they're not really full-fledged memes in and of themselves--they cannot be modified by the purveyors--knowledge of a link's content is an in-joke all the same. Link memes range from the benign-yet-odd to the malicious. The humor may lie either in the surprise of the clicker or in the content of the site being linked to.

Shock Sites

"Shock sites" are those whose content is designed to shock, offend, or otherwise upset the sensibilities of those who click the link.

Famous shock sites:

Goatse.cx Contains a photograph of a man stretching his anus.	Lemonparty Three elderly men performing oral sex upon each other.
Meatspin A gif of a man's penis flopping around as he is anally penetrated.	2 Girls 1 Cup A pornographic scat film.

Bizarre Sites

"Bizarre sites" are those that are linked to because of their unusual, usually unintentional, humorous content.

Famous bizarre sites:

Hamsterdance (Click here to hear the song) A tribute to a girl's hamster, made famous because of its repetitive music and use of GIFs.

Zombocom A parody of sites with long load times, Zombocom is famous for its zealous announcer.
